1. Updates from Afghanistan

 

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul said that the security situation at the airport in the Afghan capital was changing quickly, and that there were reports of gunfire as U.S. troops aided the evacuation of U.S. personnel. President Ashraf Ghani has fled the country; India begins evacuation from Kabul; The U.S. has suspended evacuation of the Kabul embassy; Taliban to revive pre-September 11 Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan; The U.K. Parliament was recalled to discuss Afghanistan crisis.

2. Jaishankar begins 4-day visit to New York

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will begin a four-day visit to the U.S. from Monday to attend a number of UN Security Council events including a briefing on terrorism that will be held under India's presidency of the powerful body.

3. Pegasus row: SC to continue hearing batch of pleas seeking probe into alleged snooping

 

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a batch of petitions, including those filed by the Editors Guild of India and senior journalists N. Ram and Sashi Kumar, seeking independent probe into the alleged Pegasus snooping matter.

4. BJP to hold 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra' in Marathwada between from today

The BJP will start its Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Maharashtra's Marathwada region from Monday till August 21, with leaders and workers trying to connect with people along a 650-kilometre route in six districts to tell them about welfare schemes of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

5. Haiti hospitals overwhelmed by quake victims as death toll hits 1,297

Haiti's hospitals were swamped on Sunday by thousands of injured residents after a devastating earthquake the day before killed at least 1,297 people as authorities raced to bring doctors to the worst-hit areas before a major storm hits.

6. Malaysian leader set to resign after plea for support fails

 

Mohamad Redzuan Mohamad Yusof, a Minister in the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department, told the Malaysiakini online news portal that PM Muhyiddin Yassin will submit his resignation to the king on Monday.
