1. JEE-Main results by today or tomorrow

Twelve days after the last session of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Main) was held, results are yet to be declared, forcing the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to once again postpone registrations for their entrance test JEE-Advanced, which were due to begin on Monday. The top 2.5 lakh ranked students from JEE-Main are eligible to write JEE-Advanced, which is scheduled to be held on October 3.

 

2. New university in Aligarh to be named after freedom fighter Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh

Seven years after the local BJP first demanded renaming the AMU after Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, who had donated the land for it, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Tuesday lay the foundation stone of a new university nearby in the freedom fighter's name.

3. Schools closed for two days in parts of Odisha amid downpour; record rainfall in Puri, Bhubaneswar

 

The Odisha government has shut down schools in 12 districts for two days as rain continued to pound the state for the third day on Monday due to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.

4. Sikkim orders reopening of colleges and institutions of higher learning from today

The Sikkim government has asked colleges and other institutions of higher education in the state to reopen from Tuesday. An education department circular issued by the additional chief secretary to the education department, G P Upadhyaya, which was made public on Monday, said that the state government has decided to reopen all colleges and institutions of higher learning from September 14 on the understanding that most of the students have got themselves either fully or partially vaccinated by now.

5. Blinken readies for contentious Afghan hearings in Congress

Secretary of State Antony Blinken is preparing to face tough congressional questioning this week over the Biden administration's handling of the military withdrawal from Afghanistan. In separate House and Senate hearings, lawmakers are expected to grill Blinken on the Biden administration's response to the rapid collapse of the Afghan government and more specifically on the State Department's response to what many claim was a predictable result in the final days of the American military presence there.

 

6. Meeting between nuclear envoys of US, South Korea and Japan in Tokyo today

North Korea says it successfully test fired newly developed long-range cruise missiles over the weekend, its first known testing activity in months, underscoring how it continues to expand its military capabilities amid a stalemate in nuclear negotiations with the United States.

7. Delhi environment minister to meet officials, take their suggestions on air pollution combat plan

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai will hold a review meeting with officials of various departments on Tuesday and their suggestions will be included in the national capital's 'Winter Action Plan' to combat air pollution, according to an official statement.

8. Tim Paine to undergo neck surgery before Ashes

 

Australia Test captain Tim Paine is set to undergo a surgery on Tuesday to get rid of a nagging neck pain ahead of the Ashes series against England in December. Paine, 37, exuded confidence of regaining full fitness to lead the Test side in this summer's Ashes.
