Sonowal, Himanta called to Delhi to discuss CM issueAssam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were on Friday called to New Delhi by the BJP central leadership, apparently to discuss about the leadership issue of the next government, five days after the saffron party-led alliance emerged victorious in the assembly elections, sources said.

BJP to boycott Bengal Speaker election, not attend AssemblyWest Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh Friday said that party legislators will boycott the election for the speaker in West Bengal assembly and its newly elected lawmakers will not attend the House till the post poll violence in the state is controlled. The Speaker's election is slated for Saturday. 4. Night curfew in Arunachal Pradesh from SaturdayAccording to the government order, released on Friday, inner line permits (ILPs) will not be issued to tourists during the month. 5. Weekend lockdown in ChandigarhThe Chandigarh administration has decided to impose a weekend lockdown again to check the coronavirus spread. 6. Total curfew to come in force in 7 Manipur districtsCurfew will come into force in the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul from Saturday till May 17. 7. SC to pass orders on decongestion of prisons in view of 'alarming' COVID situationThe CJI also said he would be speaking to Chief Justices of High Courts on Saturday and consult them on the composition of high-powered panels to expeditiously constitute them for speedy release of prisoners during the pandemic. 8. Noida's new 50-bed COVID care facility to open from May 8The facility, which will be managed by the Adani Group and other private partners and run by Delhi-based NGO 'Doctors For You', has come up in a short span of time.

Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developmentsThe number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 4,00,704, taking the tally in the country to 2,18,85,989 at the time of publishing this newsletter.
