BJP, Opposition seek to rally support as farm bills reach Rajya Sabha Rajya Sabha is likely to take up the contentious farm bills – The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020; The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020 – on Sunday. 2. BKU to protest against farm bills in Haryana on Sunday; CM Khattar appeals for deferring stir The Bharatiya Kisan Union's Haryana unit will hold a State-wide protest against the Centre's farm bills on Sunday during which they will block roads for three hours, even as Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar appealed for deferring the stir and invited them for talks. 3. Extremely heavy rains predicted in Kerala Idukki, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod have been put on red alert on Sunday with the India Meteorological Department forecasting the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall (in excess of 20.4 cm in a 24-hour period) in the four districts. 4. Low-pressure likely to trigger rain in W.B. from Sunday The Met Department said low-pressure brewing over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger rainfall across West Bengal from Sunday till Wednesday. The low-pressure area is likely to move northwards into Gangetic West Bengal, causing heavy rain in the coastal and adjoining districts of East Midnapore, South and North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Kolkata and Hooghly. 5. Nawaz Sharif mulls political comeback after year-long gap Pakistan's deposed premier is set to make a comeback in active politics following a year-long absence after PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari invited him to virtually attend the Opposition-led multiparty conference aimed at launching a protest movement against the Imran Khan-led government on Sunday. 6. Trump backs proposed deal to keep TikTok operating in U.S. U.S. President Donald Trump said he has given his "blessing" to a proposed deal that would see TikTok partner with Oracle and Walmart to become a U.S. company. Just a day earlier, the U.S. Commerce Department said it would bar TikTok from the U.S. app stores as of late Sunday, before announcing that it will delay the ban until September 27. 7. Trump says likely to nominate a woman to succeed Ginsburg on Supreme Court "I will be putting forth a nominee next week. I could say most likely it would be a woman. I think I can say that. If somebody were to ask me now I would say that a woman would be in first place," Donald Trump said, speaking about filling the vacancy created by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. 8.
