Rajasthan political crisis: Gehlot ready for floor test With the Rajasthan political crisis continuing for the ninth day, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader handling Rajasthan, Avinash Pande, said the party will decide on 'merit' if some rebel MLAs want to return to the Congress fold. Speaking exclusively to The Hindu, the Congress general secretary said Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is fully prepared to demonstrate his strength in the Assembly and his government will complete its term of 5 years. Mr Pande, however, declined to comment on whether the Congress would make any further attempt to reach out to former Rajasthan Congress chief, Sachin Pilot. The party is now awaiting the decision of the Rajasthan High Court which is to rule on the disqualification of Pilot and other dissident MLAs. Also today, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh urged Pilot to stay in the Congress and not go the way of Jyotiraditya Scindia in joining the BJP. "The BJP is behind the crisis in Rajasthan," Mr. Singh said, Singh said, adding that he tried to call Pilot but his calls and text messages went unanswered. "Age is on your side. Ashok (Gehlot) may have offended you, but all such issues are best resolved amicably. Dont make the mistake that Scindia made. BJP is unreliable. Nobody who joined it from any other party has succeeded there," he said. BJP 'institutionalising' lies says Rahul Gandhi Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday mounted a fresh attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and accused the ruling part of 'institutionalising' lies by manipulating the data on novel coronavirus-related deaths, the Gross Domestic Product, the stand-off with China and asserted that 'India will have to pay the price'. "The BJP has institutionalised lies — [on] COVID-19 by restricting testing and misreporting deaths; [on] GDP by using a new calculation method; and [on] Chinese aggression by frightening the media. The illusion will break soon and India will pay the price," Mr. Gandhi tweeted and tagged a report of The Washington Post that claimed India's COVID-19 death figures were either 'misreported or missed'. Indian American votes crucial for 'battleground' states With about three and a half months to go for the election day, prominent Democrats urged the Indian-American community to vote this year and support presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden — emphasising his character and history of support for the India-U.S. relationship. Tom Perez said that the Indian-American and the AAPI vote could make a significant difference in the elections. The Indian-American vote and the AAPI (a term used in the U.S. to refer to the Asian-American and Pacific-Islander community) vote, more broadly, could make a significant difference in the elections, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tom Perez said. There are about 1.3 million eligible American-Indian voters in eight battleground States, namely: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.
