1) Coronavirus | 170 districts identified as hotspots Nearly one in five districts in India have been identified as hotspots by the Health Ministry as the total number of positive novel coronavirus cases in India touched 12,382 on April 15. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued guidelines for the easing of some restrictions from April 20.
2) Coronavirus | IPL postponed indefinitel The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally informed the eight Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises that the 13th edition of the T20 league has been “indefinitely postponed” due to COVID-19.
3) Coronavirus | AICTE calls for fee deferment Colleges should not demand fee payments from students until the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown is lifted, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) said on Wednesday.
4) Indian Railways 167th anniversary - No passenger trains It was exactly at 3.35 pm on April 16, 1853 that the first passenger train of the Great Indian Peninsular Railway chugged out on its journey from Bori Bunder Station to Tanna. As the lockdown continues of course, no passenger trains are in operation.
5) India facilitates return of 180 Pakistanis to their homes The Pakistani nationals will cross over to Pakistan from the Attari-Wagah international border in Punjab on Thursday morning.
6) Kerala Cabinet meeting on coronavirus and lockdown The Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet was to meet on Wednesday, but with the guidelines not coming out till then, it was decided to postpone it for Thursday.
7) All party meeting in TN via video conferencing on Thursday: DMK The Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Stalin said the party had called for an all party meeting at its headquarters on April 15, but the city police refused permission for the same.
8) Third sample of lone Arunachal COVID-19 positive patient tests negative “The patient is gradually improving as his third test came negative. We have collected another sample of him today within 24-hours of his last test as per protocol, and it will be sent to Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) on Thursday for the final test,” Lohit District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr S Chai Pul.
9) Sports Ministry to engage with 11 Federations via video conference on Thursday The Ministry, in the first batch, will address federations which are managing ‘priority’ disciplines.
10) In nod to governors, Trump walks back total authority claim Hours after suggesting that the bipartisan concerns of governors about his assertion of power would amount to an insurrection, Trump abruptly reversed course, saying he would leave it to governors to determine when and how to revive activity in their states. He said he likely would discuss his plans with governors on Thursday.
11) G7 to discuss coronavirus pandemic on Thursday: White House The remote meeting convened by Trump follows up on another virtual summit held last month and comes as the leading world economies remain under lockdown due to the pandemic.
12) U.K. govt urged to set out lockdown exit plan as toll climbs Keir Starmer, the new leader of the opposition Labour Party, said it would support the government’s expected decision on Thursday to renew a stay-at-home order imposed three weeks ago to stem the spread of COVID-19.
13) Denmark allows some children to return to school from Wednesday (Thursday IST) The measure applies only to preschool to fifth grade, while students above that must continue to study online from home.
