Gaga and the WHO raise millions in the fight against Covid-19

As the coronavirus continues its spread worldwide, the news is moving faster than ever and it's hard to keep up.

1. New Zealand's top officials are taking a 20% pay cut. PM Jacinda Ardern and other officials say the cut is an acknowledgment of the community's sacrifices in dealing with the new coronavirus.

2. CVS plans to hire 50,000 people to tackle surging demand for drugstore services. The company is working with hospitality and retail companies to hire laid-off or furloughed employees.

3. Lady Gaga is teaming up with the WHO and Global Citizen to put on a virtual concert to support health workers. She announced that the Rolling Stones joined the lineup for "One World: Together At Home", airing April 18, and that $50 million have been raised to fight Covid-19 so far.

4. Hinge's social media #ShotChallenge has raised over $25,000 for Restaurant Workers' Community Foundation. The dating app is donating $1 per post to the fund that supports up to 15 million people in the U.S.

5. A group of Berlin residents developed a volunteer-based food and medication delivery service. Shop4Me has helped more than a hundred  at-risk neighbors in their building during the virus crisis.

6. Sikh volunteers are cooking 800 free meals a day for the elderly and disabled. They're buying food, cooking meals and delivering them to Australia's vulnerable populations during the coronavirus outbreak.

7. Meet the 99-year-old veteran who's raised millions for health workers. Capt. Tom Moore, who pledged to walk 100 laps before his 100th birthday, raised more than 15 million pounds for the NHS.

8. Delivery robots are helping grocery stores and restaurants stay open during the pandemic. The robots can travel within a 4-mile radius and be monitored via a smart phone for contactless delivery.

9. These high-tech helmets are helping authorities detect Covid-19. Authorities in the UAE are using smart helmets to detect body temperatures in order to identify people with the virus.

10. NYC restaurateur Luca Di Pietro enlisted his family to deliver free meals to medical workers. After having to lay off 95 workers, Di Pietro says the act is helping him "find a purpose in these crazy times"—and start rehiring staff.
