1. Lakhimpur Kheri | Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son arrested after 11 hours of questioning

Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, was arrested on Saturday night after over 11 hours of questioning in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence which left eight people, including four farmers, dead. Mr. Ajay Mishra maintained that his son was not at the site of the incident or in any of the cars that mowed down the farmers. Mr. Ashish Mishra was in their ancestral village Banveerpur attending the annual wrestling event organised by the family, said the Minister. He said the allegations against his son were "fake". 

Deputy Inspector General of Police Upendra Agarwal, who is heading the special investigation team (SIT) of Uttar Pradesh Police probing the case, told reporters that Mr. Ashish Mishra was not cooperating during the interrogation. 

 
2. Congress to hold 'Kisan Nyay' rally in Varanasi 

With the Lakhimpur Kheri violence that left eight people including four farmers dead becoming the focal point in the politics of poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, the Congress said it will take out a 'Kisan Nyay' rally in Varanasi on Sunday. 

According to the poster of the rally to be addressed by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party has given the slogan of "chalo Banaras". 

 

3. India, China to hold military talks 

India and China will hold another round of high-level military talks on Sunday with a focus on making some forward movement in the disengagement process in the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh, government sources said. The talks are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. at the Moldo border point on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, the sources said on Saturday. 
 

4. Jaishankar to visit Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Armenia from Sunday 

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will pay a four-day visit to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Armenia beginning Sunday with an aim to further expand bilateral ties and discuss key regional issues including the developments in Afghanistan. It is learnt that the developments in Afghanistan are expected to figure prominently in Mr. Jaishankar's talks with leaders of the three central Asian countries. 

 

5. OPD services at Safdarjung, RML, Lady Hardinge will now also be open on Sundays 

The OPD services at Centre-run facilities — Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital — in New Delhi will now also be open on Sundays, the Health Ministry has said, with the move drawing sharp reactions from various doctors' associations on Saturday. A directive in this regard was issued by the Health Ministry on October 7. The OPD services of the departments which would be open are paediatric medicine, medicine, surgery, gynaecology OPD and orthopaedics, the order stated. 

 

6. Senior Taliban officials and U.S. representatives to meet in Doha  

Senior Taliban officials and U.S. representatives are to meet on Sunday in Doha, the capital of the Persian Gulf state of Qatar. The Taliban on Saturday ruled out cooperation with the U.S. to contain extremist groups in Afghanistan, staking out an uncompromising position on a key issue ahead of the first direct talks between the former foes since America withdrew from the country in August. 
 

7. IPL 2021 Qualifier 1: Experienced CSK hold edge over Delhi Capitals 

Chennai Super Kings' old guards, with an uncanny knack of owning the big stage at right moments, will start as favourites against a solid Delhi Capitals line-up led by 'young pretender' Rishabh Pant in what promises to be an exciting first IPL Qualifier in Dubai on Sunday.
