The Morning Filter: Modi to meet top U.S. CEOs

1. Modi to interact with global CEOs in the U.S. to highlight opportunities in India Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he would highlight economic opportunities in India during his meetings with CEOs in Washington. On Thursday, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold one-o-one meetings with the top five American CEOs. Two of them are Indian Americans -- Shantanu Narayen from Adobe and Vivek Lall from General Atomics. The three others being Cristiano E Amon from Qualcomm, Mark Widmar from First Solar, and Stephen A Schwarzman from Blackstone. 2. India-UAE talks on trade pact start today India and the UAE have formally launched negotiations for a free trade agreement and the first round of talks will begin from Thursday with an aim to conclude it by end-December, a move aimed at boosting trade and investments between the countries, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday. 3. Singhu, Tikri borders closed, Vij directs officials to open alternative routes to Delhi Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday directed officials to immediately open alternative routes in Sonipat and Jhajjar districts towards Delhi as the Singhu and Tikri borders remain closed due to the farmers' protest. He said that repairs and filling of potholes on the roads being used by the people going to Delhi should be started from Thursday. 4. JNU to open for third-year PhD scholars from today The Jawaharlal Nehru University on Wednesday said that the varsity will open for third-year Ph.D scholars from Thursday and final-year M.Sc and MBA students from September 27. The campus had reopened on September 6 for those Ph.D research scholars who have to submit their thesis by the end of this year. 5. MI eye improved batting effort against rejuvenated KKR Defending champions Mumbai Indians would look for inspiration from skipper Rohit Sharma, who is set to return to action, when they take on a rejuvenated Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League match here on Thursday. 6. South Korea foreign minister says to meet Japan counterpart today South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong said he would meet his Japanese counterpart on Thursday and hoped for progress to end a dispute that has led to tit-for-tat trade restrictions. "Japan is our close neighbor and we share the same values of democracy, market economy, human rights and all that," he said. "So, we want Japan as a close friend, but unfortunately we have some differences in how to see the past history," said Chung Eui-yong. 7. U.S. FDA to authorize third dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for older Americans The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will authorize a booster dose of the Pfizer Inc and BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for those aged 65 and older and some high-risk Americans, a Bloomberg News report said on Wednesday. Advisers to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) could vote on the use of a third shot of the vaccine on Thursday, an agency official said at a public meeting of the panel on Wednesday.
