1. No respite in sight for south Bengal as Met dept predicts more rainfall till today 

The Met department on Tuesday predicted more rainfall in south Bengal even as several low-lying localities and streets in the metropolis and its adjoining areas lay submerged on the account of the previous day's record downpour. The weatherman noted that thunderstorms with lightning, along with heavy rain, may lash all districts of south Bengal till Wednesday morning, with coastal South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur and its neighbouring Paschim Medinipur likely to receive heavier downpour.

 

2. Biden says U.S. to announce 'additional commitments' in advancing the fight against Covid  

The United States will announce "additional commitments" on fighting Covid-19 when the White House hosts a summit on the pandemic on Wednesday, President Joe Biden said Tuesday. Mr.Biden said the commitments would be announced "as we seek to advance the fight against Covid-19 and hold ourselves accountable around specific targets on three key challenges -- saving lives now, vaccinating the world, and building back better." 

3. Afghan crisis, ways to contain terrorism to figure prominently in Modi-Biden talks  

At a media briefing, the Foreign Secretary Shringla said PM Narendra Modi will leave for the US on Wednesday morning and return to India on September 26. The developments in Afghanistan, ways to stem radicalism, extremism and cross-border terrorism and further expansion of India-US global partnership will figure prominently in bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden in Washington on September 24. 

4. Berthing of MV Empress to mark revival of domestic tourism in Kerala 

In a boost to the tourism sector in Kerala which is limping back to normalcy from the pandemic, a luxury cruise from Mumbai with 1,200 travellers will dock at the Cochin port on Wednesday. The luxury liner 'MV Empress,' owned by Cordelia Cruises, will anchor at Cochin Port, near Willingdon Island, at 5 am. 

5. Haryana Congress Legislature Party meeting tomorrow 

Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has called a meeting of the state Congress Legislature Party on Wednesday to discuss farmers' issues and other matters. The meeting has been called at Hooda's official residence here in the afternoon, party sources said. 

6. IMD issues warning for extremely bad weather in Delhi today 

The meteorological department has issued a warning for extremely bad weather in Delhi on Wednesday with the possibility of waterlogging and disruption of traffic. It was a warm Tuesday in Delhi with some parts of the national capital witnessing rain in the latter part of the day, leading to waterlogging and traffic snarls in a few areas.

 

7. Abhishek to go ahead with Tripura visit, not to take out rally 

Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will go ahead with his visit to Tripura on Wednesday to attend party programmes as per plans, but has cancelled the proposed mega rally in the wake of the Tripura High Court order, a top party leader said on Tuesday. Banerjee will not change his plan to visit Tripura and will attend TMC's 'Jogdaan karmasuchi' (joining programme) on September 22, he said. 

8. IMD issues yellow alert for 9 districts in Vidarbha; warns of heavy rains, thunderstorms 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Tuesday issued a yellow alert for nine districts in Maharashtra's Vidarbha, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning at few places. The IMD's regional centre has forecast heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning and issued the alert for one or two places in Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Amravati, Wardha, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Yavatmal and Washim districts for Tuesday and Wednesday. 

9. Delhi Capitals resume IPL campaign against laggards SRH 

Bolstered by Shreyas Iyer's return, Delhi Capitals will look to maintain the form they showed in the first half of the season as they resume their IPL campaign against a struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad here on Wednesday. Delhi are currently sitting on the second spot, with 12 points from eight games. On the other hand, Sunrisers are placed at the last spot, with just a solitary win from seven games and six losses. 

10. Traders stage protest against opening of Reliance retail stores in Jammu  

Traders and Apni Party activists on Tuesday staged protests separately against the opening of Reliance retail stores here while a local industry body has given a strike call for September 22 on the issue, evoking widespread support from opposition parties, lawyers and various social groups. 

11. Messi to miss PSG trip to Metz due to bruised knee 

Lionel Messi is suffering from bone bruising, the Ligue 1 club said on Tuesday, and will miss Paris St Germain's trip to Metz on Wednesday. "Lionel Messi, following the knock received on his left knee, has undergone an MRI this morning which confirms the signs of bone contusion, a new assessment will be made in 48 hours," PSG said in a statement.
