1. Opposition MPs likely to protest at Jantar Mantar to show solidarity with farmers

 

The modalities are likely to be worked out at the routine floor coordination meeting of Opposition leaders on Friday morning but former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is expected join the protests.

2. ADJ's death: Handed over probe to CBI due to gravity, seriousness of case, Jharkhand to SC

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday took over the probe into the death of Additional District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand in Jharkhand's Dhanbad last week. The matter is scheduled to be heard on Friday by a bench headed by chief justice NV Ramana.

3. Passing out parade of 72nd batch of IPS probationers today

The passing out parade of 72nd batch of IPS probationers would be held on Friday atthe Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, a premier training institute of the country for the Indian Police Service officers.

4. Trouble brewing in IUML over Enforcement Directorate probe

A day after the media reported that ED has served a notice on Hyderali Shihab Thangal,who is also state president of the IUML, seeking his appearance before it on Friday, his son and Youth League national leader Mueen Ali Shihab Thangal held a press meet in Kozhikode.

5. UN Security Council will meet on Friday under Indian Presidency to discuss Afghanistan

Afghan Ambassador to India Farid Mamundzay described as a positive development the decision to hold a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on August 6 to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

6. Mob attacks temple in Pakistan, damages idols; Imran Khan orders arrest of all culprits

Pakistan's Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed also expressed "grave concern" over the incident and fixed the matter before court for hearing on Friday.

7. SC to pronounce verdict on Amazon's pleas against Furure Retail-Reliance deal today

The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce on Friday the verdict on e-commerce giant Amazon's pleas against the merger of Future Retail Ltd (FRL) with Reliance Retail and is likely to decide whether Singapore's Emergency Arbitrator (EA) award, restraining the Rs 24,731 crore deal, was valid under Indian law and can be enforced.

8. Tokyo Olympics | India loses bronze play-off 3-4 to Great Britain in women's hockey

 

Tokyo The history-making Indian women's hockey team's dream of securing its maiden Olympic medal remained unfulfilled as it lost 3-4 to Great Britain in a hard-fought bronze play-off match at the ongoing Games here on Friday.

9. Tokyo Olympics | Gurpreet Singh pulls out of 50km race walk event due to cramps

India's Gurpreet Singh failed to finish the men's 50km race walk event of the Olympics, pulling out after the 35km mark due to cramps under hot and humid conditions here on Friday.
