1. Narayan Rane arrested in Maharashtra, let out on bail Union Minister Narayan Rane was on Tuesday arrested and taken into custody by the police at Sangameshwar in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra for his statement on Monday that he would have slapped State Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for forgetting the year India got freedom during his Independence Day speech. Mr. Rane was produced in a court in Mahad by the police a little after 9 p.m. on Tuesday and was granted bail. BJP MPs from Maharashtra will submit a memorandum to Speaker of Lok Sabha over the "violation" of rights of Union minister and Rajya Sabha MP Narayan Rane. 2. 122 lawmakers probed by ED for money laundering, 121 others investigated by CBI, SC informed Over 120 lawmakers including 51 sitting and former MPs are accused of money laundering and being probed by the Enforcement Directorate while 121 others have been booked by the CBI for various criminal offences, the Supreme Court was informed on Tuesday. A bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices D Y Chandrachud and Surya Kant is scheduled to hear a PIL filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyay on Wednesday. 3. Nirmala Sitharaman scheduled to address chiefs of state-run banks Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will meet heads of public sector banks (PSBs) on Wednesday to review the financial performance of the lenders and progress made by them in supporting the pandemic-hit economy. The meeting with MD and CEOs of PSBs assumes significance given the importance of the banking sector in generating demand and boosting consumption. 4. Two-day mega vaccination drive to start in Madhya Pradesh A two-day mega COVID-19 vaccination campaign with special focus on covering those whose second dose is due will be launched in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, an official said. On the first day of the campaign, first and second doses will be administered, while on Thursday, only those whose second jab is due will be covered, he informed. 5. Avantha case: Court allows Rana Kapoor's lawyer to be present during ED's questioning Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor is currently in judicial custody after being arrested in March 2020 in the alleged Yes Bank fraud case. The ED is probing an alleged transaction between the Avantha Group of Companies' promoter Gautam Thapar and Mr. Kapoor and his wife. On August 20, the court permitted the ED to interrogate Mr. Kapoor in judicial custody from Wednesday to Friday this week. 6. AAP to stage protests to flag alleged corruption in UP govt The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will stage protests across Uttar Pradesh, including in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, on Wednesday over "corruption" in the BJP government in the state, the party's office-bearers said. The "Matka Phodo" campaign will be held to protest the "corruption of thousands of crores" done by the state government in the Jal Jeevan Mission, AAP district unit president Neeraj Judaun said. 7.
