1. Cabinet, Council of Ministers likely to meet today

 

The Union Cabinet and the Council of Ministers are likely to meet on Thursday, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out a major expansion and reshuffle of his ministers. It is usual for the prime minister to convene meetings of the Union Cabinet as well as the Council of Ministers after a reshuffle or expansion exercise.

2. SC verdict on plea against summons issued by Delhi Assembly panel to Facebook India VP today

The Supreme Court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on Thursday on a plea filed by Facebook India Vice President and MD Ajit Mohan and others challenging the summons issued by Delhi Assembly's Peace and Harmony committee for failing to appear before it as witness in connection with the north-east Delhi riots matter.

3. Farmers gear up for protest against fuel price hike

Large contingents of farmers have started arriving at protest sites in preparation for their agitation Thursday against fuel price hike, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) said on Wednesday.

4. England's Ben Stokes to lead the opening match in Cardiff against Pakistan today

 

World Cup final hero Ben Stokes will lead a hurriedly-assembled side comprising nine uncapped players in the ODI series against Pakistan after the original squad was forced into isolation following a COVID-19 outbreak just 48 hours before Thursday's opening match in Cardiff.

5. Coronavirus in India | Numbers and developments

The Union Health Ministry has sent letters to Odisha, Assam, Tripura and Sikkim, pointing to a rise in COVID-19 cases despite a decline in the national curve. It directed them to take steps such as improving containment measures and ramping up testing, vaccination and emphasising pandemic-appropriate behaviour.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 45,667 taking the tally in the country to 3,07,08,136 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 4,05,054.
