“We are fixin’ to shock Oklahoma”
THE BIG STORY
The Senate confirmed the first-ever Muslim American federal judge appointed by a president
It's a history-making moment. On Thursday, the Senate confirmed US District Judge Zahid Quraishi to the federal bench in New Jersey, making him the first Muslim American to serve as a presidentially appointed federal judge.
Quraishi, a Pakistani American, broke multiple barriers: he's also the first Asian Pacific American to serve as a federal district judge in New Jersey. His nomination received support from a host of Muslim American and Asian Pacific American organizations, as well as the New Jersey chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
The nomination was a part of President Joe Biden's first wave of judicial picks, a list intended to send a message that the new administration would make diversifying the bench a priority.
Liberal advocacy groups have pushed Biden to make the courts a focus after the Trump administration filled more than 200 vacancies, largely with white male judges. Judge Zahid Quraishi. Tom Williams / CQ-Roll Call, Inc via Getty Images STAYING ON TOP OF THIS
Inside the Microsoft Teams meeting that'll determine what happens if you get sexually assaulted on campus
Joe Biden's administration is seeking to figure out which Trump-era regulations to adjust, scrap or keep. As a part of this process, the administration is holding hearings about Title IX and sexual assaults on campus.
If you need a refresher: during the Trump administration, Betsy DeVos finalized new federal regulations that lay out how schools must interpret the federal Title IX gender equity law. The changes gave more protection and power to students accused of sexual assault — which advocates say will hurt survivors.
Now, as the Biden administration sorts through which regulations to keep, public hearings about Title IX are being conducted virtually over Microsoft Teams, a video conference application — and it hasn't exactly been seamless.

Women on Twitch are done with being stereotyped
Twitch is no longer a young platform. The streaming platform has been around for a decade. And for much of that time, it's largely been a boys club, mirroring the gaming world. The top streamers have consistently been men, with only a few notable exceptions.
Women streamers have made major strides on the platform, yet their followings and accomplishments are continually picked apart and debated, to say nothing of the harassment they face.
The streamers Lauren Strapagiel talked to told her that women are pressured to distance themselves from showing skin in order to be taken seriously. But, simultaneously, Twitch culture says the way for women to get ahead is to lower their necklines. Either way, women lose.
