Biden lands in Geneva ahead of Putin summit U.S. President Joe Biden arrived in Geneva on Tuesday ahead of his first summit with Vladimir Putin, as tensions between Moscow and Washington stand at their highest in years. President Biden flew into the Swiss city on the last leg of his first foreign trip as president after mending relations with Washington's closest allies during G7 and NATO summits in Britain and Brussels, arriving in Geneva on the eve of the first meeting between US and Russian leaders since 2018. 2. Mandatory gold hallmarking to come into force from Wednesday, initially in 256 districts: Govt The Centre on Tuesday said mandatory hallmarking of gold jewellery and artefacts will come into force from June 16 in a phased manner and initially will be implemented in 256 districts of the country. 3. Taj Mahal to reopen, 650 visitors allowed at a time At the Taj Mahal, which will reopen for visitors from Wednesday, only 650 people will be allowed to enter the premises at a time, officials said on Tuesday. All the centrally protected monuments, museums and sites closed for around two months due to the Covid pandemic will reopen on June 16, an Archaeological Survey of India order said. 4. Madhya Pradesh bus ban for 3 States to go, Maharashtra curbs till June 22 The ban on inter-state movement of passenger buses between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh will be lifted from Wednesday, while the curb on those from Maharashtra will continue till June 22, an official said here on Tuesday. 5. Delhi civic bodies set to get mayors elected unopposed The mayoral candidates from the ruling BJP are set to get elected unopposed to the posts in the three municipal corporations in Delhi, polls for which are slated to be held on Wednesday. 6. Rajnath to speak at regional security meet Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will virtually address a meeting of a grouping comprising 10-nation ASEAN and some of its dialogue partners on Wednesday. Singh is likely to present India's views on dealing with major security challenges facing the region at the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting Plus. 7. Restaurants, cinema halls, gyms in Punjab to reopen with 50% capacity As the COVID-19 positivity rate dropped to 2% in Punjab, the state government on Tuesday eased restrictions, allowing restaurants, cinema halls and gyms to operate at 50% capacity beginning Wednesday. According to an official statement, 50 people are allowed at weddings and cremations. Earlier, 20 persons were allowed for such gatherings. 8. PM Modi to deliver keynote address at VivaTech Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the keynote address at the fifth edition of 'VivaTech' on Wednesday. The PMO noted that he has been invited as a guest of honour to deliver the keynote address and other prominent speakers at the event include French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and ministers and MPs from various European countries. 9. Coronavirus in India | Jharkhand extends lockdown-like restrictions The Jharkhand government on Tuesday extended COVID-related lockdown-like restrictions till June 24 with some relaxations, including opening of shopping malls and departmental stores till 4 pm,an official said. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country stood at 2,96,27,595 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 3,79,551.
