1. Seventh International Yoga Day

 

Addressing the 7th International Yoga Day programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said yoga remains a "ray of hope" as the world fights the coronavirus pandemic and asserted it was a source of inner strength in these difficult times.

2. J&K parties get into huddle after invite to PM meeting

Congress raises pitch for Statehood restoration; Panthers Party chief Bhim Singh to meet party leaders on Monday to discuss the invitation.

3. Senior BJP leaders in U.P. to again review party's functioning from today

The BJP's national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Radha Mohan Singh will be in the State on Monday to review its programmes, their second visit this month as the party sets in motion preparations for the crucial Assembly polls next year.

4. Amit Shah to visit three COVID-19 vaccination centres in Gujarat

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a two-day visit to his home State Gujarat from Monday, where he is scheduled to visit three COVID-19 vaccination centres, including one in Ahmedabad, officials said.

5. M.P. aims to vaccinate 10 lakh people today

 

The Madhya Pradesh government has set an ambitious target to administer COVID-19 vaccines to 10 lakh people on Monday under a mega campaign which will be rolled out at 7,000 centres across the State, Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang said on Sunday.

6. Odisha to step up vaccination drive

The Odisha government has directed all districts and civic body authorities to achieve 3 lakh vaccinations per day.

7. Public parks, gardens to open in Delhi

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Sunday announced further unlock measures in the Capital. It allowed bars to reopen with 50% seating capacity between noon and 10pm from June 21 along with public parks, gardens, and golf clubs. It also allowed outdoor yoga activities.

8. T.N. eases more curbs

The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday announced more relaxations in lockdown norms for 27 districts. Bus services are all set to resume in four districts including Chennai from Monday, after a gap of 42 days. Metro Rail services in Chennai would resume with 50% occupancy.

9. KSRTC to operate 3,000 buses from today

 

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Sunday said it planned to operate about 3,000 buses initially from June 21, with the government relaxing COVID-19 restrictions and permitting bus operations with riders.

10. Weekend COVID-19 curfew lifted from eight districts in J&K

The Jammu and Kashmir State Executive Committee (SEC) on Sunday announced the lifting of weekend curfew from eight of the 20 districts, with further easing of restrictions owing to significant improvement in the Covid situation.

11. Jordan ex-royal court chief in trial over alleged monarchy plot

Jordan's military court to start trial of former royal court chief Bassem Awadallah and a minor royal, Sherif Hassan Zaid, on charges of agitating to destabilise the monarchy. The pair are being charged with agitating to undermine the kingdom's political system and acts that threaten public security and sowing sedition. The two charges carry up to 30 years in prison.

12. World Test Championship final, day 4

 

Jamieson's second five-wicket haul against India in three Tests had Virat Kohli's men all out for 217 in overcast conditions. In reply, New Zealand were 101 for two at stumps as Conway (54 off 152 balls) scored his third successive Test half-century before flicking one off Ishant Sharma to Mohammed Shami before the close of play on day 3.

13. Dutee, Hima among top athletes seeking direct Olympic qualification during IGP 4

Top Indian athletes such as Hima Das, Dutee Chand, Tejinderpal Singh Toor and Annu Rani will seek direct Olympics qualification when they compete at the Indian Grand Prix series 4, in Patiala on Monday.

14. Coronavirus in India | Numbers and developments

Maharashtra registered the highest average daily deaths (1,289) in the country followed by Tamil Nadu (248), Karnataka (139), and Kerala (139). The number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 51,388, taking the tally in the country to 2,99,32,793 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 3,88,126.
