1. Expect national plan from Centre on supply of oxygen, drugs for COVID-19 patients: SCA Bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde issued a notice to the Centre for Friday and sought a "national plan" on issues including supply of oxygen and essential drugs for treatment of patients infected with the virus. The SCBA, meanwhile, moved the SC, saying High Courts are best suited to deal with COVID-19 issues at local levels. 2. SC agrees to hear Vedanta plea of free oxygen supplyThe Supreme Court termed the COVID-19 situation as almost a "national emergency" while agreeing to hear Vedanta's plea for opening of its Sterlite copper unit at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu on the ground that it would produce thousand tonnes of oxygen and give it free of charge to treat patients. "We will hear (plea of Vedanta) on Friday," the Bench said in the hearing conducted through video conferencing. 3. Protocol for psychological rehabilitation of COVID patients to be released todayThe Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), an autonomous body of the Ministry of Ayush, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru and the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) have come together to develop a protocol for the psychosocial rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients. 4. Five municipal councils to go for polls in GoaElection for five municipal councils in Goa would be held on Friday with 402 candidates in the fray. The State Election Commission will hold elections for Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem and Quepem municipal councils. Results of the polls will be announced on April 26. 5. Second day of virtual climate summitU.S. President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. would cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 50%-52% by 2030 relative to 2005 levels, in a clean break with the Trump administration policies on climate action on the first day of the two-days virtual climate summit on Thursday. "When we close this summit on Friday, we will unmistakably communicate ... the U.S. is back," he said. The summit was attended by leaders from the world's biggest emitters. 7. Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developmentsThe number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 3,32,348, taking the tally in the country to 1,62,25,979, at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 1,86,557.
