1. Bengal elections: 35 constituencies to go to polls in final phase

Over 84 lakh voters in West Bengal will decide the political fate of 283 candidates on Thursday, when 35 Assembly constituencies go to polls in the eighth and final phase, amid a raging second wave of COVID-19.

2. First consignments of medical supplies from US, Russia expected to reach India by today

Sources said India sought medical supplies from the US including AstraZeneca vaccines as well as raw materials for production of the vaccines through the Indian embassy and various other channels.

3. COVID-19 vaccine for 18+ | Registrations began on Wednesday with glitches

Vaccine registrations for those aged 18-44 began on Wednesday with several — after some glitches — able to enroll, but unable to get appointments at hospitals for vaccination. Though no figure was available for precisely how many in this age bracket registered, Ram Sewak Sharma, Chairman, CoWIN, told The Hindu via a text message that "most" of the 8 million who had registered on Wednesday belonged to the 18-44 age bracket.

4. Supreme Court seeks Centre's reply on oxygen demand in country

The replies have to be filed by the Centre, the Chief Secretaries of state governments and the Union Territories by 6 pm on Thursday on the issues raised in the order.

5. Night curfew extended by three hours in Chandigarh

The night curfew will start from 6 pm till 5 am and the fresh curbs will come into force from Thursday till further orders, said an official statement. Presently, the curfew timings are from 9 pm till 5 am.

6. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation scraps rule on admission of COVID-19 patients arriving in '108' ambulances

"Starting Thursday, the city's COVID-19 hospitals will admit patients on the basis of their need, irrespective of whether they arrived on '108' ambulances, private ambulances, private vehicles, or on foot," the AMC said, following a high-level meeting on Wednesday.

7. Stage set for final phase of UP panchayat polls today

Over 5.27 lakh candidates are in the fray for more than 2.10 lakh seats across 17 districts in this round of the election.

9. Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 3,85,571, taking the tally in the country to 1,83,68,095 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 2,04,810.
