1. Reservation hearing continues in the Supreme Court

A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan is hearing arguments while dealing with issues such as whether the Indra Sawhney judgement of 1992, also known as the Mandal Verdict, which put a cap of 50% on total reservation quota, needed a re-look by a larger bench.

2. Jaishankar to hold talks with visiting Kuwaiti counterpart today




Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah arrived in India on Wednesday evening on a nearly 18-hour visit.

3. Amaravati land scam | A.P. Police issue notices to ex-Minister, complainant

While former Minister P. Narayana has been asked to appear on March 22, the complainant, YSRC MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, has been asked to appear on Thursday for the examination of facts.

4. Telangana MLC election | Results expected today

The final result is expected on Thursday as big-sized ballot papers and jumbo ballot boxes were used for polling in view of a large number of candidates in the fray.

5. Haryana brings new Sports University Bill

The fresh bill, which will be taken up for discussion on Thursday, seeks to remove objections raised by the central government.

6. Ahmedabad civic body to shut city bus service from today

The Gujarat government on Wednesday said that as part of the measures to control the spread of coronavirus, it has decided to increase the number of daily testing and vaccination besides putting special focus on contact tracing and increasing the number of micro containment areas wherever necessary.

8. All India Shia Personal Law Board calls emergency meeting today

More Muslim organisations on Wednesday slammed former U.P. Shia Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi, while his family members appeared to shun him for his PIL in the Supreme Court seeking removal of some Quranic verses which he claimed promoted terrorism. The All India Shia Personal Law Board has called an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss the issue and decide on a plan of action, its spokesperson Maulana Yasoob Abbas said.

9. Hundreds of farmers to file nominations from Kangeyam

With over 100 nominations received by the committee at least 100 would file the nominations today, they said adding that more farmers would be filing their papers on Thursday and Friday to touch 1,000. The decision to contest the polls was taken as the demand by farmers for releasing water from Parambikulam-Aliyar Project has fallen on deaf ears.

10. Oli calls for CPN-UML's parliamentary party meeting today

The call for the meeting came as the Communist Party of Nepal-UML's rival faction led by Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal went ahead with the two-day national gathering of the party's leaders and cadres that began on Wednesday.

11. West Bank, Gaza to get vaccines from U.N. programme

Health Ministry spokesman Kamal al-Shakhra said authorities would receive 38,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 24,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Wednesday and Thursday. He said the AstraZeneca vaccine will be kept in storage until the World Health Organisation addresses recent safety concerns.

12. In a must-win game, India aims to negate the toss factor




India would aim to take the toss out of the equation and put up a much improved all-round show against a formidable England in their bid to level the series in the fourth Twenty20 match in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The number of positive coronavirus cases reported from India now stands at 1,14,74,484 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 1,61,747.
