Here's the latest news from the global pandemic.

We're tracking how many people get shots

With the start of the biggest vaccination campaign in history, Bloomberg will be tracking the day-by-day progress as shots go into arms around the world.

So far, at least 4.6 million doses around the globe have been administered. It's a good start, but needs to move far more quickly if there's any hope of meeting some of the ambitious goals nations have set for eliminating the coronavirus

Our tracker counts country-by-country vaccinations and is updated daily. In the U.S., we are compiling state-level data. So far, the U.S. has performed 2.13 million vaccinations since Pfizer and BioNTech's shot was cleared for use on Dec. 14. It's a pace that the head of the government's Operation Warp Speed program called "slower than we thought it would be."

Our data is gathered by a team of dozens of reporters around the globe. It's culled from state vaccination dashboards, federal websites, from interviews, press conferences and Twitter posts by officials. As we gather more information, we'll add additional ways for our readers to analyze the progress of the campaign. And we'll start adding regular updates to this newsletter, to put some of this information right in your inbox.

You can find the tracker here. Our U.S. data typically updates in the early evening, and we add international data as we get major updates.

Thanks for reading, and happy holidays.—Drew Armstrong
