Welcome to Election Day
| EDITOR'S NOTE
Hello,
We made it. After months upon months of campaign speeches, polls, fundraising pleas and general tumult – including an impeachment and a pandemic – Election Day is finally here.
But don't expect anything to be finished tonight.
Joe Biden may have a big lead in national polling averages, but races in several key states are closer. We might not know the full results from some of those states for days. In Pennsylvania, for instance, several counties won't start counting mail-in ballots until tomorrow. That means we might not know for a while whether Biden or President Trump will win the Keystone State, considered by many experts to be a tipping point.
Here's a breakdown of when swing states will start processing and counting their votes.
Still, several states will likely be called tonight, and there remains a chance we might have a good idea where the contest is headed by tomorrow morning. As always, keep an eye on Florida. Polls start closing at 7 p.m. ET. Be sure to tune into CNBC, which will cover the results and market reaction all night long, and follow along with CNBC.com's complete coverage, including our live blog.
