The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Tuesday announced the seat-sharing arrangement for the third phase of the District Development Council (DDC) polls in Jammu and Kashmir on December 4. The last day for filing nominations for the third phase of the polls is November 18.
2. Random COVID-19 test for people coming from Delhi to Noida from today
People coming from Delhi to Noida will be randomly tested for COVID-19 from November 18, the administration of Gautam Buddh Nagar, adjoining the national capital, in Uttar Pradesh said. The decision for random sampling came during an online meeting of senior administration and health department officials with District Magistrate Suhas L.Y. on Tuesday amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in Delhi.
3. PM Modi speaks with U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, affirms importance of ties
“Spoke to U.S. President-elect Joe Biden on phone to congratulate him. We reiterated our firm commitment to the Indo-U.S. strategic partnership and discussed our shared priorities and concerns, COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region,” Mr. Modi wrote on Twitter.
4. Centre, States look to tighten GST registration process
The Centre and States are looking to further tighten the GST registration process and legal measures to deal with the rising cases of fake invoicing. A meeting of the law committee of the GST Council has been convened on November 18 to discuss these issues, Finance Ministry sources said.
5. Yediyurapppa to visit Delhi today, likely to discuss Cabinet exercise Days after indicating that Cabinet expansion or reshuffle was on the cards, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa is scheduled to travel to New Delhi on November 18, during which he is expected to discuss it with the BJP high command. According to the Chief Minister’s tentative tour programme, released by his office, Mr. Yediyurappa will be leaving for New Delhi by a special flight at 11:30 a.m. on November 18 and reach there by 2:30 p.m.
6. Hyderabad civic polls: Nomination to be accepted from today
Elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would be held on December 1, the Telangana State Election Commission announced on Tuesday. Polling for the 150-member GHMC, presently held by the ruling TRS, would be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on December 1. Nominations would be accepted from November 18 with the last day being November 20.
7. Varavara Rao is fully conscious and oriented: Maha tells HC
Jailed poet-activist Varavara Rao, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, is “fully conscious and oriented”, the Maharashtra government stated in a medical report submitted before the Bombay High Court. Mr. Rao, 81, is currently lodged as an under-trial in the Taloja prison in neighbouring Navi Mumbai. Mr. Rao had filed a bail application and a writ petition seeking he be shifted to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai immediately, owing to his “diminishing neurological and physical health condition.” The High Court will hear both pleas of Mr. Rao on November 18.
8. Renault India to name its B Segment SUV today
French automaker Renault is set to announce the name of its upcoming B-segment SUV, codenamed HBC, on November 18, which is expected to mark a major shift in the company’s journey in the country. The new SUV is expected to hit the market next year.
9. Germany eyes ban on anti-lockdown protest at Parliament
German security officials are considering banning protests this week outside the federal Parliament by people opposed to coronavirus lockdown measures over fears a rally could turn violent. The unusual move comes amid concerns that extremist groups could try to use a rally initially planned for Wednesday to attack the Bundestag, echoing an unsuccessful attempt to storm the parliament building during a similar demonstration in August.
