Nobel Literature Prize announcement 1 p.m. CEST (4.30 p.m. IST) Names tipped at the bookies include the Guadeloupean novelist Maryse Condé, Russian novelist Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Japanese bestseller Haruki Murakami, Canadian author Margaret Atwood and Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, the Kenyan novelist, poet and playwright. Observers have also speculated that the jury could be looking closely at the work of Antiguan-American writer Kincaid and Canadian poet Carson.
2. Modi to launch ‘jan andolan’ campaign for COVID-19-appropriate behaviour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a ‘jan andolan’ campaign for COVID appropriate behaviour on Thursday in view of upcoming festivals, winter season and opening up of the economy. The PM will launch the campaign by way of a tweet, a release issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said.
3. Afghanistan peace council chief Abdullah Abdullah scheduled to meet Narendra Modi on Thursday
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Wednesday conveyed to Abdullah Abdullah that India supports an independent, democratic, sovereign and peaceful Afghanistan where no terrorists can operate.
4. RLD workers in Muzaffarnagar to hold protest against baton charge on Jayant Chaudhary
Rashtriya Lok Dal activists in Muzaffarnagar will on Thursday stage a protest against the police baton charge on their party leader Jayant Chaudhary when he had gone to meet the Hathras victim’s family.
5. Bengal BJP to hold Nabanna Abhiyan March to Nabanna on Thursday
A day ahead of the BJP’s protestmarch to Nabanna, the state secretariat, against the “worsening law and order situation” in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress government on Wednesday announced that the building will be shut down for two days from October 8 “for sanitization purpose“.
6. High-level Chinese Communist Party official to visit Sri Lanka
China’s State Councilor Yang Jiechi.
Yang Jiechi will travel to Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria and Serbia from Thursday to Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced in Beijing.
