The Prime Minister will deliver the inaugural address at the 'Conclave on Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under National Education Policy' on Friday, an official statement said.

On Friday, Afghanistan's capital Kabul is set to hold a "Loya Jirga" meeting to decide the fate of hundreds of prisoners, mostly members of the Taliban, as it was a key demand of the terror outfit to join peace talks.
5) ASHA, Anganwadi, other scheme workers to go on two-day strike
A joint platform of scheme workers under programmes like Anganwadi, ASHA, and national health mission on Thursday gave a call for a two-day nationwide strike from Friday to press for better service conditions and benefits.
6) Kisan Rail to begin services from Friday
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced this initiative in her Budget speech earlier this year envisaging setting up of a 'Kisan Rail' through the public-private-partnership (PPP) mode for a cold supply chain to transport perishable goods.

7) Manipur extends complete lockdown up to August 15
The curfew and the lockdown has been extended from Friday onwards to August 15 as per a decision of the state cabinet, the order by Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar said.
8) Lockdown to be imposed in Jodhpur as virus cases rise
The lockdown will come in force from 8 p.m. on Friday and would continue till 6 a.m. on Monday.
9) Top finalists of 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge' to showcase apps in mega hackathon
The event will be streamed live from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday on social media platforms of MyGov India and Digital India.
10) Panchganga crosses danger mark in Kolhapur, over 4,000 shifted
The India Meterological Department said there will be light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in Pune and adjoining areas and heavy rain in isolated places in Ghat areas on Friday.
11) Five killed as rains pound Kerala, over 2000 shifted to relief camps
The IMD said a red alert (over 20 cm of rains) has been issued to Malappuram district for August 7 and an orange alert (6 cm-20 cm rains) in nine districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod till August 9.

12) Heavy rain likely in Odisha over next few days
While rainfall of varied intensity is expected to lash most parts of the state till Monday, the Met Centre has forecast heavy downpour at some places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Keonjhar till Friday.
13) IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rains in parts of M.P.
The IMD on Thursday forecast heavy to very heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in western parts of Madhya Pradesh till Friday morning.
14) Karunanidhi second death anniversary
M.K. Stalin launches a "Kalaignar memorial international virtual marathon" to commemorate the anniversary. According to the party, people could participate in the marathon from Friday till August 31 from anywhere.
