1. Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments
The number of positive coronavirus cases reported from India now stands at 33,07,714 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The toll from the disease stands at 60,649.
2. North India to witness intense rainfall over next 4 days; orange alert for Uttarakhand for August 27-28: IMD
The weather department has forecast intense rainfall activity over several parts of north India for the next four days and issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand for August 27 and 28 and a yellow alert for the subsequent two days.
3. Stormy GST Council meet in offing; States’ revenue shortfall, compensation to be discussed 
The 41st meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, to be held via video conferencing, has just one agenda for discussion — making up for shortfall in States’ revenues, sources said.
4. Defence seems bent upon delaying Babri mosque demolition trial: Court
While making his exasperation clear, Special Judge S.K. Yadav rejected the defence counsel’s requests to grant them time till August 31 for filing written arguments and directed them to ensure filing the same by Thursday.

7. Pranab Mukherjee’s renal parameters ‘slightly deranged’  Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s renal parameters have shown a decline while he continues to remain in coma, the Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) hospital said.
8. New Zealand mosque attacks | Final day of hearing on Thursday Attacker Brenton Harrison Tarrant told a New Zealand judge Wednesday he will not speak in his defence at his sentencing hearing for the mass shooting of worshippers at two Christchurch mosques.
9. Kamala Harris will be Democrats’ main counter to Trump on Thursday Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris plans to deliver a speech condemning President Donald Trump on Thursday for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. The speech will come hours before Trump is set to accept renomination for a second term.
10. Mike Pence accepts Republican vice-presidential nomination  Mike Pence has formally accepted the Republican vice-presidential nomination for the November 3 election in the United States. The nomination was accepted on the third night of the National Republican Convention on Wednesday.
