1) Coronavirus | Latest numbers The number of coronavirus cases in India stands at 1,03,076 with the death toll at 5,864. Maharashtra reported another massive spike of 2,287 COVID-19 cases to take the cumulative tally to 72,300 while 103 deaths saw the number of fatalities rise to 2,465.
2) Cyclone 'Nisarga' to hit Maharashtra coastline with high wind speed, heavy rainfall Cyclone 'Nisarga' will make landfall along the Maharashtra coast on Wednesday with high wind speed ranging up to 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph besides heavy rainfall and storm in Mumbai and other coastal areas of the state, the Home Ministry said. The storm is likely to impact Mumbai, Thane and other coastal districts of Maharashtra like Raigad and Palghar along with Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Bhavnagar and Bharuch districts of Gujarat and Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
3) Coronavirus | India's tally crosses the 2-lakh mark India's confirmed cases tally crossed the 2 lakh mark and active cases crossed the 1 lakh mark. The death toll crossed 5,800. As 'Unlock 1' came into effect on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi likened it to the "start of getting growth back." The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the country even as Moody's Investors Service downgraded India's sovereign credit rating for the first time in more than two decades to 'Baa3'. 4) U.S. protests: Trump threatens to deploy military in U.S. cities As protests, rioting and looting spread across the United States following the police killing of George Floyd, an African American man last week, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would deploy the military in cities and states if local authorities could not bring the violence under control.
5) ACB issues lookout notice for ex-chairman of J&K Cooperative Bank wanted in land scam The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday issued a lookout notice for a former chairman of J&K State Cooperative Bank Limited in connection with his alleged involvement in a Rs 223-crore land scam. The chairman of the Jhelum Cooperative House Building Society (JCHBS), Hilal Ahmed Mir, was arrested on May 14 in the alleged land scam.
6) Dubai malls, businesses to 'fully operate' from today Shopping malls in Dubai will fully reopen for business on Wednesday, in the latest easing of coronavirus restrictions, the emirate's media office announced. The step makes the glitzy city-state the first in the Middle East to drop nearly all restrictions to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus that hit retailers and leisure activities.
7) Latvia to open borders to most European countries on Wednesday Latvia will open its borders to most European countries on Wednesday without requiring visitors to self-isolate as the Baltic nation prepares to exit emergency coronavirus measures, the government said on Tuesday. Imposed self-isolation will be scrapped for people arriving from European countries where the infection rate is deemed to be low.
8) Assam blowout: CM seeks central help; Singapore experts to visit site A team of experts from Singapore is scheduled to arrive in Assam on Wednesday to plug a leak in a well of Oil India Limited at Baghjan in Tinsukia district, officials said. The development came after Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called up Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday and sought help in getting foreign experts to repair the damage, they said. An Oil India Limited (OIL) firefighter overseeing the work near the well site following the May 27 blast at the Baghjan oil field of Tinsukia district, some 550 Kms from Guwahati.
