Trump scraps CDC reopening rules The Trump administration shelved a 17-page CDC report containing step-by-step instructions for local authorities on how and when to reopen restaurants, mass transit, theaters, schools, daycares, and other public places during the ongoing pandemic. The decision reportedly came after intense lobbying on behalf of businesses and churches, but White House officials say the guidance was "too prescriptive." A CDC official said scientists were told the report "would never see the light of day." Even so, more than half of U.S. states that are reopening fail to meet White House guidelines and many have yet to fully control the spread of Covid-19, risking an avoidable spike in new cases and fatalities.
