1) Coronavirus | Latest numbers Going by the numbers declared by different states and union territories, the death toll due to COVID-19 across India has risen to 3,316 and the number of cases has climbed to 1,06,429.
2) Coronavirus lockdown | Railways to run 200 timetable based trains from June 1 The Indian Railways on Tuesday announced that it would run 200 new trains with a timetable from June 1. The new trains would be in addition to the Shramik Special trains, whose numbers too would be increased.
3) Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Amphan The wind speed and the intensity of rain is likely to increase gradually as Amphan crosses the West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts between Digha in West Bengal and Hatia Islands in Bangladesh in the afternoon or evening of Wednesday. About 3,35,000 people in West Bengal and Odisha have been evacuated.
4) Migrant workers | Congress, U.P. govt tug of war The Congress and the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday continued to spar over the issue of providing buses for stranded migrant workers and exchanged a volley of claims and allegations.
5) Lockdown | Bihar allows plying of auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws following odd-even rule Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws with registration number ending with odd numbers will operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while those with even numbers are allowed to run on the remaining days of the week, Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said.
6) Lockdown | Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh to hold nationwide protest against dilution of labour laws on Wednesday The RSS-affiliated BMS will hold the nationwide protest against dilution of labour laws in various States, including BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The BMS is also opposing the increase in working hours in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa and Odisha.
7) 300 Goan seafarers to be repatriated from Italy Around 300 Goan seafarers stranded in Italy on account of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, will be flown in to Goa’s Dabolim international airport on two special flights on Wednesday, an official said.
8) Lockdown | Rajasthan police headquarters, branches to resume regular operations The Rajasthan police headquarters and all branches will return to regular operations from Wednesday, two months after its functioning was limited due to the coronavirus pandemic, an official said.
9) Coronavirus | South Korean high-schools to reopen on Wednesday Vice Health Minister Kim Gang-lip urged vigilance to maintain hard-won gains against the virus and called for education officials to double check preventive measures with high-school seniors returning to school on Wednesday.
10) APMC act amendment | Karnataka Congress to hold “symbolic protest” against State govt The protest will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in front of the Gandhi statue at the Vidhana Soudha, opposition leader Siddaramaiah’s office said in a statement.
