This was the week that ripped the fabric of modern life 70 years in the making. As the Covid-19 death toll topped 10,000 globally, governments locked down schools, businesses, social venues and most other every-day aspects of society. Policy makers responded with promises to rescue economies hurtling toward disaster, while the private sector also vowed to pitch in.
This edition of Weekend Reads brings stories about which people, countries and institutions are shouldering the mantle of leadership. There are also deep dives into how it may all be for naught if they don't work together, and that this couldn't come at a worse time for U.S. President Donald Trump.
We hope you enjoy these and more of our best stories from the past seven days.
