Hi readers,
Two long-awaited trade deals – which we've discussed often in this newsletter – reached the finish line this week.
On Thursday, the Senate passed the new North American trade deal (USMCA), which will now head to President Trump's desk. Our tireless trade reporter Kayla Tausche has covered the USMCA negotiations every step of the way, and you can catch up on her reporting below with an assist from Jacob Pramuk.
The "Phase 1" China trade deal is now official following a signing ceremony at the White House on Wednesday. Jacob Pramuk reports on what's in the deal, and Thomas Franck has a handy breakdown of the $200 billion in U.S. goods China has agreed to purchase over the next two years. The list includes everything from honey to hair clippers. Now, on to "Phase 2" negotiations! Too soon?
Next week, the Senate impeachment trial will resume on Tuesday at 1pm. I recommend subscribing to the CNBC Politics newsletter for regular details on the trial, but in the meantime, check out Kevin Breuninger's overview of what to expect.
Enjoy the long weekend!
