The Jersey City shooting was a "hate crime" and an "attack on the Jewish community," mayor says

The ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Greenville, Jersey City, is small — it consists of around 100 families, a few schools, and a kosher market.

So when a shooting erupted at JC Kosher Supermarket earlier this week, killing six people including two suspects in what officials have described as an anti-Semitic hate crime, it struck directly in the heart of the community.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said, "There's no question that this is a hate crime and anti-Semitism should be called out aggressively and firmly, and immediately for what it is."

Fulop said he was calling the shooting a hate crime based on CCTV video that showed a gunman walking out of a van and targeting the kosher market, as well as Facebook comments made by the suspects showing a "favorable sentiment on social media toward anti-Semitic groups."

What we know about the victims:

Four people including a police officer died in the attack. Mindy Ferencz, 31, who owned the supermarket with her husband, died, as did her cousin, 24-year-old Moshe Deutsch, who was visiting.

A worker at the supermarket, 49-year-old Miguel Douglas, was killed as he tried to escape. The police officer, Detective Joseph Seals, a father of five, was killed after approaching the shooters on patrol.

CATCHING HEAT

The US is once again the villain at the UN climate summit

In Madrid, the 25th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25) is working on an update to the 2015 Paris climate agreement. That's the agreement where countries promised to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions so the Earth warms no more than 2 degrees Celsius.

Not the US, though — President Trump recently triggered the yearlong process to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, which will be finalized Nov. 4, 2020.

Now, participants at COP25 say the US is trying to blow up one of the top priorities the world's poorest nations are working to achieve at the meeting: a mechanism for developing nations hurt by climate change to seek compensation from the wealthy nations that emitted the largest share of greenhouse gasses.

One activist put it like this: "The US is using its last chance to cover its ass."

THIS COULD GET AWKWARD

Kendall Jenner ranked Kourtney as the worst Kardashian parent and I'm sure that went over well

During an appearance on the Late Late Show, guest host Harry Styles asked Jenner to play the classic segment "Spill Your Guts Or Fill Your Guts." For the uninitiated, it's where you either answer an awkward question truthfully or eat a gross thing.

Styles asked Jenner to rank her siblings from best to worst parents. At first, it looked like Jenner might take the penalty — then she answered: She put her brother Rob first, and went down the list… to Kourtney in last place.
