  • SpaceX launches Canadian satellites

But first...

Hong Kong descends into chaos

Hong Kong protesters vowed to keep demonstrating against an extradition bill that has triggered its biggest political crisis in years. Lawmakers postponed debate of the controversial bill as thousands of demonstrators swarmed its Legislative Council, prompting police to fire tear gas and rubber bullets at people in the crowd, many of whom carried umbrellas and wore face masks and helmets.

More:

  • At least 72 people were injured and rushed to hospitals.
  • Hong Kong's leader Carrie Lam broke into tears during an interview in which she pledged to press forward with the bill.
  • Critics say the legislation could trap Hong Kong residents in China's judicial system, compromising the island's legal independence.
