1. PM to inaugurate medical colleges in Rajasthan 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday inaugurate 'CIPET: Institute of Petrochemicals Technology', Jaipur and also lay the foundation stone of four new medical colleges in Rajasthan via video-conferencing. 

The PMO said these medical colleges in Banswara, Sirohi, Hanumangarh and Dausa districts have been sanctioned under the centrally sponsored scheme for the "establishment of new medical colleges attached with district/ referral hospitals". 

2. National parks in Assam to reopen for tourists 

The Orang National Park in Assam will reopen for tourists on Thursday and the parks in Kaziranga and Manas will reopen on October 1, officials said on Wednesday. 

The national parks in Assam were shut to visitors for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the monsoon season, they said.

 

3. IMD forecasts cyclonic storm off Gujarat, asks fishermen not to venture into sea till October 2 

Several parts of south Gujarat and the Saurashtra region received heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more widespread showers in the state in the next two days.

 

4. India, Australia renew Test rivalry after 15 years with landmark day-nighter 

Having gained significantly in confidence with a fighting performance in one-dayers, the Indian women's cricket team would now go through a trial by fire when it make its day-night Test debut against Australia in the one-off game beginning in  Gold Coast on Thursday. 

5. Bottom-placed Hyderabad face uphill challenge against table toppers CSK 

Virtually out of the play-off race, bottom-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad will hope to keep their new-found momentum intact when they face table toppers Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, in Sharjah on Thursday.  

Kane Williamson led from the front with an unbeaten half-century to help Hyderabad return to winning ways after five losses on the trot.
