It's all about the Federal Reserve in the week ahead as the central bank holds its much anticipated September meeting. The Fed is likely to signal it will announce the wind down of its bond buying program later this year, the first major step away from its easy policy. One thing Fed officials may do is change their interest rate outlook, and the collective forecasts of Fed officials could show the first rate hike moves up to next year from the year after. But strategists expect the Fed will work hard to avoid shaking up the markets.
There is also some housing data in the week ahead, with pending sales, permits and existing home sales all reported. A few companies report earnings, and investors will be watching for updates on supply chain issues and rising costs. Among the names reporting are Nike and FedEx.
