1. Biden says another terrorist attack on Kabul airport is 'highly likely' 

Another terrorist attack on the Kabul airport is "highly likely" in the next 24 to 36 hours, U.S. President Joe Biden has warned, as the US rushed to evacuate the few remaining Americans and Afghan allies ahead of the August 31 deadline to withdraw from Afghanistan. 

The U.S. has evacuated approximately 2,000 people from the Kabul airport in the last 24 hours, the White House has said.

2. Om Birla visits Pangong Tso lake; interacts with sarpanches, army personnel 

Speaker Om Birla is scheduled to visit Srinagar on Sunday and will also address a conference of panchayat members. He is on a three-day trip to Ladakh region as part of a 'Parliamentary Outreach Programme for Panchayati Raj Institutions'. 

3. 2nd phase of Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samiti elections to be held in Rajasthan  

Polling for the second phase of elections to the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti will be held on Sunday in six districts of Rajasthan, officials said. 

State Election Commissioner P S Mehra said that in the second phase, 1,680 candidates in 28 Panchayat Samitis will try their luck in the electoral fray. Ten candidates have already been elected unopposed. 

4. Odisha to launch State-level serological survey  

The Odisha government on Saturday asked authorities of 12 districts to extend support to the city-based Regional Medical Research Centre of ICMR, which will commence a state-level serological survey from August 29. 

RMRC Bhubaneswar of the Indian Council of Medical Research will conduct the exercise in Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Khurda, Puri, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur, an official said. 

5. Louisiana braces for menacing Hurricane Ida 

Weather forecasters have warned residents along the northern Gulf of Mexico coast to rush preparations ahead of an intensifying Hurricane Ida, which is expected to bring winds as high as 130 mph, life-threatening storm surge and flooding rain when it slams ashore in Louisiana on Sunday. 

6. Minnesota wildfires level off; air quality alert extended 

Fire crews were working Saturday to put out the largest of numerous wildfires in northeastern Minnesota, where smoke from the blazes prompted a warning to residents to remain indoors. 

An air quality alert issued by state regulators was extended until 9 a.m. Sunday. The extension came as an unhealthy band of smoky air stretched from International Falls through the Iron Range to south of Brainerd. 

7. Tokyo Paralympics | Bhavina Patel wins historic silver  

Indian table tennis player Bhavina Patel signed off with a historic silver medal in her maiden Paralymic Games after going down 0-3 to world number one Chinese paddler Ying Zhou in the women's singles class 4 final on August 29.

8. Messi prepares for first appearance for French giants 

Lionel Messi could make his eagerly awaited debut as Paris Saint-Germain visits the modest surroundings of Reims. The six-time Ballon d'Or winner joined PSG three weeks ago after his new contract with Barcelona fell through. 

He did not feature in the first three games of the Ligue 1 campaign after being given time to settle in the French capital and build up his fitness, but he is expected to play against Reims on Sunday.
