1. Afghanistan crisis | US airstrike targets ISIS-K 'planner' in Afghanistan

The U.S. has conducted a drone strike early Saturday against an Islamic State "planner" in Afghanistan, striking back at the terror outfit in less than 48 hours after a suicide bombing claimed by the group killed 169 Afghans and 13 American soldiers at the Kabul airport.

The U.S. plans to get out of Afghanistan by August 31 and hand over the control of the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul to the people of Afghanistan.

 

2. Amit Shah on 3-day Gujarat visit  

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a three-day Gujarat visit from August 28 during which he will attend meetings and review development works in Ahmedabad district and his Lok Sabha constituency, said a state government official.

 

3. Conference to be held in Guwahati for promoting Ayush System of Medicines

A conference will be held in Guwahati on August 28 to discuss how the Ayush System of Medicines can be efficiently mainstreamed and can become more popular in the northeastern states, the Ayush Ministry said on August 27.

 

4. Uttarakhand Assembly to hold special debate on sustainable development goals

The monsoon session of Uttarakhand Assembly concluded on August 27, but the House will re-assemble on August 28 for a special debate on sustainable development goals.

 

5. Bhavina Patel becomes first Indian in finals of a table tennis event in Paralympics

Bhavina Patel continued to script history as she became the first Indian to enter the final of a table tennis event in the Paralympics with a hard-fought, 3-2 win over China's Miao Zhang in a class 4 semifinal here on August 28.

She will take on world number one Chinese paddler Ying Zhou in the summit clash on August 29.

 

6. England vs India 3rd Test, Day 04

An under-fire Cheteshwar Pujara played one of his most aggressive knocks as the Indian top order showed plenty of resolve to reach 215 for two and keep the third Test against England alive with two more days remaining. Day 4 of the third Test between India and England at Leeds will be played on August 28.
