1. PM invites Opposition for special meeting on COVID-19

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament urging Opposition members to raise "the most difficult and sharpest questions" in the House, but also told them to allow the government to respond in a "disciplined atmosphere". He also repeated his invitation to floor leaders of all parties for a meeting with him on July 20 evening to discuss the vaccination policy and management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2. Court to pronounce judgment in Delhi riots case today

A court is scheduled to pronounce judgment on Tuesday in a case related to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots in which a man was charged for rioting, dacoity, and being part of an unlawful assembly. According to the police, accused Suresh, along with a huge crowd of rioters carrying iron rods and sticks, allegedly broke open the lock of a shop situated in Delhi's Babarpur Road and looted it on February 25 evening.

3. Sarojini Nagar market traders to shut shops today to protest against SDM order

The Sarojini Nagar market associations have decided to down their shutters on Tuesday to protest against an SDM order that directed to close the export market. The export market was closed on Sunday for "grossly" violating COVID-19 norms, according to an official order from the sub-divisional magistrate (Vasant Vihar).

4. Health Secretary to brief floor leaders on COVID-19; 'Constructive opposition prevails', says TMC leader

 

The Union Health Secretary will address floor leaders of political parties on COVID-19 on Tuesday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O' Brien said here, terming it as a victory of a "constructive Opposition" which had insisted that the PM's address on the issue should be before Parliament.

5. Moderate rainfall expected to continue in Delhi: IMD

The national capital is expected to continue receiving moderate rainfall with some isolated intense spells today, the India Meteorological Department said on Monday. Delhi woke up to incessant overnight rains on Monday morning. It had received 70 mm rain till 8.30 am that caused waterlogging in several parts of the city.

6. India in England: Pant still in isolation as all eyes on "opener" Mayank against County Select XI

Mayank Agarwal's fight to reclaim his place in Indian Test eleven starts on Tuesday when he walks out to open in a three-day game against 'County Select XI', starting on Tuesday as best friend KL Rahul gears up to keep wickets in Rishabh Pant's absence. The match has been accorded first-class status, a first for India in many years since Mahendra Singh Dhoni took over captain.

 

7. Coronavirus in India | Numbers and developments

The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has surpassed 41 crore, the Union health ministry said on Monday. The ministry said that according to the 7 pm provisional report, 47,77,697 vaccine doses have been administered on Monday. It said that 22,38,900 vaccine doses were administered as first dose and 1,48,075 vaccine doses were given as second dose in the age group 18-44 years on Monday.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 28,512, taking the tally in the country to 3,11,72,107 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 4,14,653.
