1. Fear of resurgence of pandemic casts shadow over Bakrid celebrations

 

The fear of resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic after a drop in cases this month has forced the government to take stringent measures, casting a shadow over Bakrid celebrations in Kerala on Wednesday.

2. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat arrives in Assam on 2-day visit

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat arrived in Assam on a two-day visit on Tuesday evening. Bhagwat held meetings with senior leaders of the organisation from different parts of Assam and other North- eastern states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura, an RSS spokesperson said.

3. Easing of Covid restrictions helps traders make up for losses on Eid eve in Kashmir

Easing of the COVID-19 restrictions ahead of Eid-ul-Adha in Kashmir has helped the business fraternity make up for some of the losses they have suffered since August 2019 due to back-to-back curfew and lockdowns. The Eid shoppers returned to markets, thronging bakeries and garment shops in the city and elsewhere in the valley, as Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, officials said.

4. IMD issues red rain alert for five Maha districts, 'orange' warning for Mumbai

 

The India Meteorological Centre (IMD) on Tuesday issued a red alert for five Maharashtra districts, including Raigad and Pune, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, for the next two days. It also issued an orange alert for Mumbai between Wednesday and Friday, indicating possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

5. BJP to hold dharna in Delhi to protest Bengal 'post-poll violence'

The BJP will stage a dharna at Rajghat in Delhi on Wednesday to protest alleged incidents of post-poll violence in West Bengal, the party's state spokesperson, Shamik Bhattacharya, said. The saffron camp has claimed that 38 of its workers were killed in Bengal since the TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, came to power for the third consecutive time on May 2.

6. Coronavirus in India | Numbers and developments

Two-thirds of the population aged above six have antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, according to data released on Tuesday from a serosurvey conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in June and July. Nearly 40 crore people, or a third of the population, are still vulnerable to the COVID-19 infection, the study showed.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 42,152, taking the tally in the country to 3,12,14,259 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 4,18,491.
