1. 15 dead as heavy rains pummel Mumbai; local train services suspended 

Fifteen people died in two different incidents of house-wall collapse in Mumbai at early morning on Sunday due to incessant rains in the city. The suburban train services on both Central Railway and Western Railway in the financial capital were suspended due to water logging in the tracks due to the overnight heavy downpour, railway officials said.

2. Farmers start indefinite sit-in as talks with officials over sedition cases fail 

Farmers sat on an indefinite dharna at the mini-secretariat in Sirsa after failed talks with the district administration over the slapping of sedition charge against members of their community after an alleged attack on the Haryana deputy speaker's car. 

3. Uttar Pradesh cancels Kanwar Yatra 

The Kanwar yatra in Uttar Pradesh has been cancelled this year, the State government said. The yatra was scheduled to start on July 25. 

4. Mizoram church body calls for prayer to contain Covid-19 

A conglomerate of major churches in Mizoram has called for a State-wide prayer on Sunday to contain the spread of Covid-19 as the Northeastern state grapples with the second wave of the pandemic. 

5. France allows visitors vaccinated with Covishield 

France will allow international travellers who have had AstraZeneca's Indian-manufactured vaccine into the country starting Sunday.

6. First batch of Indian athletes departs for Tokyo 

The Indian shooting contingent checked in at the Games Village on Saturday. Besides, the rowing team has also reached Tokyo, while the boxing contingent has left from its training base in Italy and is scheduled to reach the Japanese capital via Amsterdam on Sunday morning. 

7. India's white-ball newbies start Lankan audition for vacant T20 WC slots 

A bunch of fresh faces will be desperate for a fair T20 World Cup audition when India's different-looking yet formidable white-ball squad face an under-fire Sri Lanka in the six-match limited overs contest, beginning with the first ODI here on Sunday. 

8. Coronavirus in India | Numbers and developments   

The Centre has placed an order to procure 66 crore more doses of Covishield and Covaxin to be supplied between August and December this year, at a revised price of ₹205 and ₹215 per dose respectively, excluding taxes, official sources have said. The number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 41,160, taking the tally in the country to 3,11,05,181 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 4,13,644.
