10 Companies to Watch Right Now

Hi, it's Rebecca. Picking a publicly traded company to invest in has always been a daunting proposition, even before meme stocks brought their mania to the markets. There are more than 40,000 equities to choose from around the world, and many of them just aren't worth your hard-earned cash. Which is why it often makes far more sense to go with low-cost index funds instead.

Not that there aren't some gems out there. For Bloomberg Businessweek's annual Year Ahead issue, we've long partnered with our colleagues in Bloomberg Intelligence to highlight 50 Companies to Watch. BI's expert analysts dive deep into their sectors and run valuation models to come up with compelling finds. Some companies are poised to have a breakout moment; others are likely to face headwinds. Now, we're excited to introduce a midyear installment that we're calling—get ready for it—10 Companies to Watch.

BI's analysts looked across the U.S., Europe, and Asia to identify these select few as the ones most worthy of your attention. Part of the exercise was pinpointing tangible catalysts, or triggers, they think will help, or maybe hurt, the businesses. I found their picks to be bold and interesting—a big winner from the semiconductor shortage, a beer brand that may have a hangover, and a Chinese EV manufacturer with near-autonomous driving technology, among others.
