1. Body of Kerala woman killed in Palestinian rocket attack to be brought home on May 15

The body of Soumya Santhosh from Kerala, who was killed in a Palestinian rocket attack in Israel on May 11, will be brought to Kerala on Saturday. Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan said on Friday that the mortal remains were being repatriated from Israel to Kerala via New Delhi.

2. China lands spacecraft on Mars

A Chinese spacecraft carrying the country's first Mars rover has touched down on the red planet, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) confirmed on Saturday morning. The Tianwen-1, which consists of an orbiter, a lander and a rover, was launched on July 23, 2020, it said.

3. Australia resumes repatriation flights from India for stranded citizens amidst disastrous virus spread

The repatriation flights facilitated by the Australian government for its stranded citizens in India resumed from Friday, according to Foreign Minister Marise Payne. Mr.Payne said that a flight on Friday departed from Sydney to pick up Australian passengers in New Delhi before arriving back in Darwin on Saturday.

4. Vaccination for 45-plus age group stopped for three days in Gujarat

Inoculation of people in the age group 45 and above in Gujarat was halted for three days from Friday following a revision in the COVID-19 vaccination schedule after the Centre's decision to increase the gap between two doses of Covishield, the State government said. However, during these three days, vaccination will continue for people in the age group of 18 to 44 years who have already registered themselves and received SMSes, said a State government release.

5. Coronavirus lockdown | Shops in Tamil Nadu to close by 10 am from Saturday

Shops selling provisions, groceries and meat in Tamil Nadu would be allowed to function only from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. from Saturday, as part of intensified COVID-19 lockdown measures that will be in place till May 24 morning. They were earlier allowed to remain open between 6 a.m. and 12 noon. Even e-commerce companies, which were allowed to deliver provisions, vegetables and meat, would be allowed to operate only till 10 am.

6. Vaccination suspended in Mumbai for two days due to cyclone warning

The Mumbai civic body on Friday decided to suspend its COVID-19 vaccination drive for the next two days in view of the warning about cyclone Tauktae. There would be no inoculation on May 15 and 16, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation tweeted. Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani told PTI that it was a precautionary measure as cyclone Tauktae is forecast to pass close to the city.

7. Tauktae likely to intensify into 'very severe cyclonic' storm with wind speed up to 175 kmph: IMD

The depression in the Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a "very severe cyclonic storm" on May 17 and cross the Gujarat coast a day later, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. 8. Heavy rains likely to lash Kerala on May 14, 15; Red alert sounded

Authorities have sounded a red alert in three districts of Kerala on May 14 and five districts on May 15, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rains under the influence of a low pressure area over the Arabian Sea. In a tweet, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan asked the authorities and people to follow the guidelines issued by the State disaster management authority.

10. Karnataka: People asked not to visit vaccination centres before 12 weeks of Covishield jab

The State government on Friday urged citizens, not to come to vaccination centres before completing the 12-week period after taking the first dose of the Covishield vaccine.

10. Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments

India recorded 3,05,372 new COVID-19 cases until 9.30 p.m. on Friday. As many as 3,438 new deaths were also registered. The country has so far reported a total of 2,43,51,601 cases and 2,65,791 deaths.
