1. Justice N.V. Ramana to take over as 48th Chief Justice of India

The 47th Chief Justice of India, Sharad A. Bobde, on Friday completed his last working day in office. The baton of the top judge will pass to Justice N.V. Ramana, the seniormost judge of the court, who would take his oath of office at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday.

2. IAF planes to ferry four oxygen tankers to Jamnagar for refill

The Maharashtra government will send four empty tankers to Jamnagar from Pune by IAF cargo planes to bring liquid medical oxygen to the state on Saturday, a senior official said. The first Air Force cargo plane carrying two 15 ton capacity empty oxygen tankers will take off from Pune airport for Jamnagar at 8.30 a.m., while the second one will leave at 11.30 a.m.

3. Amit Shah reviews COVID-19 situation in Gujarat

A 950-bed facility for coronavirus patients at the GMDC ground in Ahmedabad will be functional from Saturday, while another temporary hospital with 1,200 beds will come up in Gandhinagar soon, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in Ahmedabad on Friday.

4. Night curfew in Andhra Pradesh from today

"The night curfew will be in force daily from 10 pm to 5 am. Only essential and emergency services, like medical and health, milk supply, will be allowed," Deputy Chief Minister (Health) AKK Srinivas told reporters.

5. DPIIT sets up control room to monitor delivery, logistics of essential items

Manufacturing, transportation, distribution, wholesale or e-commerce companies facing difficulties in transportation and distribution of goods or mobilisation of resources can reach out to officials on - (011) 23062383, 23062975 or dpiit-controlroom@gov.in. The telephone numbers will remain functional from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Saturday.

6. Low-key Thrissur Pooram ends today

Two persons were killed and more than 25 injured when a branch of a banyan tree fell on a procession held as part of the Thrissur Pooram festival held past midnight, police said on Saturday. The curtains would fall for this year's pooram in the wee hours of Saturday.

7. PM to launch distribution of e-property cards under SWAMITVA scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the distribution of e-property cards under the 'SWAMITVA scheme' on Saturday, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office. As many as 4.09 lakh property owners will be given their e-property cards on National Panchayati Raj Day. The PM will also confer the National Panchayat Awards 2021 on the occasion.

8. Indian Navy to send high-tech equipment to Indonesia to help trace missing submarine even as hope fades

The intervention system will be airlifted to Indonesia by Saturday, officials said. The United States is deploying a P-8 Poseidon aircraft to assist in the search and rescue operation for a missing Indonesian navy submarine lost in the Bali Sea, as hopes fade for the 53 crew which are expected to have run out of oxygen early on Saturday.

9. Protest in Yangon ahead of regional summit on Myanmar crisis

Leaders of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations will discuss the Myanmar crisis on Saturday in Jakarta, with coup leader Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing set to attend in person.

A desperate Kolkata Knight Riders will look to bring their campaign back on track after a hattrick of defeats when they face a beleaguered Rajasthan Royals in their IPL clash in Mumbai on Saturday.

11. Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 3,45,799, taking the tally in the country to 1,28,50,940, at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 1,89,469.
