1. Assembly elections (Bypolls) to be held for 56 seats
The Assembly elections will be held across 11 states — Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Telangana Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh.
2. U.S. presidential elections headed for a tight finish
The U.S. presidential race is headed for a tight finish with the margin between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden shrinking, particularly in key battle ground states, latest opinion polls have indicated on the eve of the elections.
3. Madhya Pradesh Assembly seat bypolls
The November 3 bypolls to take place for 28 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, which will see prominent leaders of the BJP and the Congress go head to head. 355 candidates, including 12 State ministers, are in the fray. In most of the seats, there is a direct fight between the BJP and Congress, while in two or three seats of Gwalior Chambal region, a triangular contest is on the cards in the wake of the BSP’s presence.
4. First phase of Malabar exercise begins on Tuesday in Bay of Bengal The first phase of the Malabar exercise among the navies of India, the US, Japan and Australia will kick start off Visakhapatnam in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, in a reflection of growing congruence in strategic interests of the four nations. The exercise is taking place at a time India and China are locked in a nearly six-month-long bitter border standoff in eastern Ladakh that has significantly strained their ties.
5. Nirav Modi extradition case to enter final stages in U.K. court
The extradition case of fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, wanted in India on charges of fraud and money laundering, is expected to enter its final stages at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Tuesday.
6. Modi, Rahul to campaign for respective alliances in Bihar on Tuesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will take yet another trip to the poll-bound Bihar on Tuesday to garner support for their respective alliances. Modi will address two rallies- at Forbesganj in Araria district and Saharsa. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi will also be in Bihar on November 3 to address election meetings in Katihar and Kishanganj. All the districts where Modi and Gandhi will be visiting Tuesday will go to vote in the last phase on November 7. This will be the fourth and the last campaign trip of Modi in the ongoing Bihar elections.
7. Delhi Inter-state bus services to resume from Nov. 3, ISBTs to operate at 50% of their pre-COVID capacity
The Delhi government will resume inter-state bus services from November 3 by allowing the three ISBTs here to operate at 50% cent of their pre-COVID capacity. The move comes amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the city with over 5,000 new cases being reported daily for the last few days. In an order, the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) that operates the inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs) said the inter-state bus services will reopen at the Sarai Kale Khan, Kashmiri Gate and Anand Vihar ISBTs from November 3.
8. Congress demands court-monitored probe by sitting judge into ‘horse-trading’ video - follow up
Ahead of the November 3 bypolls in eight Assembly seats in Gujarat, the Congress demanded a court-monitored probe by a sitting judge into the accusation of a former party MLA, as purportedly shown in a sting video, that each lawmaker who resigned in the state was paid off.
9. Delhi riots: Court declines time to police for funds sanction to supply chargesheet to accused - follow up
A court in Delhi refused to grant time to the police to obtain funds’ sanction to provide to the accused hard copies of the voluminous chargesheet filed in a case related to the north east Delhi riots in February, saying they were supposed to act promptly.
10. Trump threatens to fire Fauci in rift with disease expert - follow up
President Donald Trump is suggesting that he will fire Dr. Anthony Fauci after Tuesday’s election, as his rift with the nation’s top infectious disease expert widens while the nation sees its most alarming outbreak of the coronavirus since the spring.
11. Mighty Mumbai Indians stand between Sunrisers and play-off spot Riding high on momentum, resurgent Sunrisers Hyderabad will back themselves to topple the mighty Mumbai Indians and qualify for the IPL play-offs here on Tuesday.
