WTO getting first female leader

1. The WTO will be led by a woman for the first time. South Korean trade minister Yoo Myung-hee and former Nigerian finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala qualified as finalists to become the next director-general.

2. A new streaming app showcases global Black cinema. DeShuna Spencer created KweliTV, which aims to distribute Black-centered stories not typically portrayed in mainstream media to nearly 36,000 users.

3. The star of the VP debate was a fly atop Mike Pence's head. The scene-stealing insect's 2-minute appearance drew enormous buzz thanks to Harris's and Pence's tough but restrained back-and-forth.

4. A UN food agency won this year's Nobel Peace Prize. The World Food Programme nabbed the top honor for its "efforts to combat hunger" and its "contribution to bettering conditions in conflict-affected areas." 

5. The world's first 3D-printed boat debuted in Italy. The 6.5-meter, 800-kilogram MAMBO watercraft, made of ultra-durable fiberglass by a robotic algorithm, was a highlight of the Genoa International Boat Show.

6. Tasmanian devils are roaming Australia again after 3,000 years. Conservation groups freed a dozen of the feisty, carnivorous marsupials in a wildlife refuge, hoping the species will thrive and improve biodiversity.

7. Travis Scott's Midas touch is making businesses profitable again. The rapper has created a consumer frenzy for McDonald's, Nike, and Fortnite, helping companies reach young consumers and boost sales.

8. Community fridges are tackling food insecurity in the Bronx. Organizers of "The Friendly Fridge" initiative set up a network of outdoor refrigerators stocked with free food donated by NYC restaurants.

9. Sotheby's auctioned a "flawless" 102-carat diamond for a record price. The first-of-its-kind Canadian white diamond was sold to an anonymous buyer for $15.7 million after an opening bid of $0.13.

10. Circus school is in full swing again. The smell of sweat and the grunts of exertion from trapeze artists are back at the ESAC international school in Brussels with new virus measures in place to limit exposure.
