When people think of live experiences, many reminisce about concerts and festivals, most of which have been put on hold since the pandemic hit. But live experiences won't be gone forever, according to Esplanade CEO Yvonne Tham — they just need to be different.
With the digital acceleration of everything, live events aren't far behind. "We're going to see festivals in the future that are not just limited by time and space," Tham says. Esplanade of Singapore hosted more than 3,000 annual performances pre-pandemic. At the start of the pandemic, venues like Esplanade closed their doors, and we saw TV networks and rogue performers alike putting on digital shows of all kinds to (try to) connect the world.

Some venues have opened in Singapore, and the Esplanade is doing small-scale indoor trial performances. Upon release, tickets have "snapped up" within an hour, Tham says.
There is a real desire to step into a physical performance space. "They are fundamental to being human," she continues. Watch more from that interview. All these stories reveal a step in an exciting direction: across verticals, the world is finding ways to future-proof their businesses. We look forward to seeing how live experiences continue to evolve around the globe.
