Latest update on coronavirus stimulus: Not good
EDITOR'S NOTE
Hello,
Nancy Pelosi is under increasing pressure from members of her caucus to reach a deal on a new round of coronavirus stimulus, but the House speaker isn't budging on her push for a larger package.
Pelosi spoke to CNBC on Tuesday, nearly a week after a so-called "skinny" Republican measure failed in the GOP-controlled Senate. Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is suggesting a compromise bill that would come in with a higher price tag than what Republicans proposed, but still far lower than the $3 trillion-plus package Pelosi and the House passed before the summer.
"This is the opportunity. And the skinny deal is a Republican bill: That's not a deal at all," she said. "They're making a skinny — in fact, Chuck Schumer and I call it an emaciated — proposal for a massive problem."
Consider it the latest sign that a stimulus bill won't be happening until after Election Day, if at all.
