Our professional lives have officially gotten personal. If you have kids, the balancing act of working from home with children at home may have felt temporary just months ago. But now, there is a weighty feeling of permanency and an urgent need for solutions, fast. As the school year kicks off, employees with children and childcare issues are feeling the burn. So too are employers. Only 32% of companies returning to work have plans for employees' child-care needs. There is nothing inherently intuitive about restructuring offices to be Covid-friendly. The past few months have presented a unique opportunity for employers to uncover just how agile their workforce can be, adapting to new tech, communicating and leading, even amid times of uncertainty. Now, as the workforce steps into this new fall phase, how will employers measure success when a leveled playing field simply no longer exists? We'll have our eyes on these issues as summer comes to a close and uncertainty continues to color the fall. Read more.
PROGRAMMING NOTE: In just a few weeks: Hilton CHRO Matthew Schuyler and Levi's CFO Harmit Singh will share their tactics for planning amid unknowns with Jon Fortt in our @Work Spotlight event. We'll also have a strategy session with poker champ Annie Duke, led by Dom Chu. Join us as we look for opportunities despite these challenging times. In the meantime, check out some stories below that stood out to us this week.
