1. Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments The number of positive coronavirus cases reported from India now stands at 26,98,355 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The toll from the disease stands at 51,934. 2. SC judgment on PM-CARES The Supreme Court will on Tuesday pronounce its judgment on a writ petition seeking the transfer of funds received in the PM-CARES Fund to the National Disaster Management Fund to help in the fight against the pandemic. 3. SC to continue hearings on UGC guidelines for final year exams So far there has been no decision on the final year examination, proposed to be conducted by end September by the University Grants Commission. In another case, SC yesterday rejected the plea to postpone the JEE Main and NEET 2020 entrance examinations. 4. India-Maldives ‘air bubble’ to begin The Maldives is the first neighbouring country with which India has operationalized the air bubble. The step will help in the movement of people from both sides for employment, tourism, medical emergencies etc.

China’s Teesta plans: Foreign Secretary Shringla likely to visit Bangladesh on Tuesday Bangladesh is likely to receive a $1-billion assistance from China for an irrigation project on the Teesta which has been at the centre of a water-sharing negotiation with India. The mega engineering project will help the river to maintain optimal levels during summer. The decision was taken after the Teesta water-sharing agreement with India has failed to materialise. 6. Decision on reopening hotels, gyms, weekly markets likely at DDMA meeting on Tuesday: Official A decision on whether hotels, gymnasium and weekly markets should be allowed to reopen in the national capital is likely to be taken at a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Tuesday, officials said on Monday. The Arvind Kejriwal government had earlier this month resent a proposal to Lt Governor Anil Baijal about reopening hotels and weekly markets in view of the current COVID-19 situation in Delhi. Baijal had previously overturned a similar decision of the AAP dispensation. 7. Sebi to meet Anmi, depositories to discuss preparedness on new margin collection Markets regulator Sebi will meet stock brokers' association and depositories on Tuesday to analyse readiness to implement the new rules on margin collection from September 1, sources said on Monday. They also said brokers are not technically prepared to roll-out the proposed framework. 8. Coal India unions defer day-long strike Coal India trade unions have deferred the day-long strike scheduled for Tuesday with the Centre extending the bid due date for the auction of coal blocks for commercial mining, a trade union leader said on Monday. The unions had decided to go on strike against the commercial mining and the proposed divestment or buyback of shares of Coal India Ltd. 9.
