Here are the latest updates and the big news stories to follow today: 1) Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments The number of positive coronavirus cases reported from India now stands at 11,94,090 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The toll from the disease stands at 28,785. 2) Top IAF brass to meet to discuss China border situation, Rafale deployment Top Air Force commanders are scheduled to meet and discuss the situation developing between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh in a two day meet. Integration of the Rafale fighter jets due to arrive in India by July-end will also be discussed during the two-day meet. 3) PM Modi to address India Ideas Summit Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday deliver the keynote address at the India Ideas Summit, an event which will see discussions on India-US cooperation and their relationship in a post-pandemic world. The virtual summit is being hosted by the US-India Business Council. 4) As lockdown ends in Karnataka, KSRTC to commence bus services on Wednesday Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Tuesday announced the commencement of bus services from Bengaluru from 6 am on Wednesday. 5) Amid rise in cases, lockdown in several urban areas in Chhattisgarh A 7-day lockdown will be enforced in municipal limits of Raipur and Birgaon in Chhattisgarh from Wednesday during which only essential activities will be allowed, officials said. A similar lockdown will be in place in twenty other urban bodies, including three municipal corporations of four districts, an official said. 6) Coronavirus | SASB cancels Amarnath Yatra - followup The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) on Tuesday decided to cancel the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 7) Contempt proceedings against advocate Prashant Bhushan: matter is scheduled to be heard The Supreme Court Tuesday initiated suo motu (on its own) contempt proceedings against activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan for his alleged derogatory tweets against the judiciary. The apex court has also initiated contempt proceedings against Twitter India on which Mr. Bhushan had posted some alleged derogatory comments. 8) Jharkhand BJP chief to take oath as member of Rajya Sabha on Wednesday Newly-elected Rajya Sabha member from Jharkhand Deepak Prakash will take oath on Wednesday and later meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a BJP leader said on Tuesday.
9) Punjab's first plasma bank opens at Patiala's Rajindra Hospital Punjab Tuesday got its first plasma bank at Patiala's Rajindra Hospital where those who have recovered from the novel coronavirus can donate their blood plasma to help treat COVID-19 patients. 10) London club Brentford closes in on Premier League promotion With another win at home on Wednesday, west London club Brentford could end up saying goodbye to its 116-year-old stadium and hello to the Premier League for the first time.
