Here are the latest updates and the big news stories to follow today: 1) Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments The number of positive coronavirus cases reported from India now stands at 13,36,874 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The toll from the disease stands at 31,413. For the third consecutive day cases and deaths in India crossed the 45,000 and 750 marks. 2) Cong to hold protests across Rajasthan against BJP The Congress in Rajasthan will hold demonstrations in all district headquarters on Saturday against the BJP's "conspiracy to murder democracy", the party said. This comes amid the political crisis in Rajasthan. 3) Coronavirus: 'Janta curfew' in Nagpur city on Saturday, Sunday A 'janta curfew' will be imposed in Nagpur city of Maharashtra on Saturday and Sunday to curb the rising number of coronavirus cases, the civic chief said on Friday. Nagpur municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe announced the imposition of 'janta curfew' on Saturday and Sunday (July 25 & 26) in the city. 4) No flight operations in Kolkata due to lockdown No flights in and to Kolkata Airport will operate on 25th and 29th of July. The West Bengal government had requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to suspend flight operations in Kolkata on these lockdown days. 5) China yet to disengage from most LAC spots, says new report - followup China is yet to either fully disengage or dilute its extensive military build-up at most points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), according to a new assessment of satellite images by Stratfor, the United States-based intelligence platform. 6) WNBA set to tip off shortened season after delayed start A WNBA season like no other will get underway on Saturday with all 12 teams at a single site. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, league staff and the player's union worked together on a plan to tip off the league's 24th season at a single site during the coronavirus pandemic. They coordinated on medical protocols and the logistics of playing in one location. 7) Liquor shops outside UP containment zones to remain open on Saturday, Sunday lockdown The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday said that the liquor shops outside containment zones would remain open during the COVID-19 lockdown on Saturdays and Sundays. In an order, the government informed that the liquor shops will not be closed during the weekend from 10 pm on Friday till 5 am on Monday. 8) Tropical Storm Hanna to reach Texas coast on Saturday Tropical Storm Hanna was expected to make landfall over the weekend, threatening to bring heavy rain, rough waters and strong winds to the Gulf Coast, all while another tropical storm continued to approach the Caribbean.
